LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Bringing the National Curriculum to life

ALPACA WORKSHOPS FOR SCHOOLS IN SOMERSET:

Where classroom meets countryside

Learning outdoors and with animals provides a unique environment that is proven to stimulate curiosity and engagement.

Our mobile alpaca workshops bring experiential learning directly to your school enabling children from KS1 to KS3 to explore key elements of the National Curriculum in subjects like English, Maths, PSHE, Biology, in a way that’s active, relevant, and lasting. Whilst our farm-based workshops can be used to deliver more impactful learning opportunities for smaller groups.

By applying knowledge in real-world, meaningful contexts, learning becomes not only more enjoyable but also easier to understand and remember.

Tailored KS1-KS3 Outdoor Workshops

Our mobile alpaca visits are available to schools within a hour's drive of Stone Allerton, Somerset. They are ideal for the whole class to enjoy, and children will be invited to 'get up close' in the pens with the Alpacas in small groups.

Our sessions are tailored to your school children's needs. We can offer shorter one off sessions, or a number of visits to explore topics in more detail which can be aligned to your National Curriculum KS1 – KS3 learning criteria. We will work closely with you to deliver an enjoyable, engaging, rich learning opportunity for your children.

For visits at Allerton Alpacas, which can offer support for a wider range of subjects, these workshops are suitable for groups of up to 8 children aged 5-14 (to be accompanied by required number of supervisory adults).

How it can be  applied

English

Fun tasks can link literacy skills for all age groups - from writing poetry to creating a care plan. These can be continued back in the classroom.

Maths

Maths comes to life as children calculate the amount of feed for the alpacas based on their weight, or work out how many bales of hay will be needed over a year.

Science

There is so much to explore in science from ‘growing up’ to digestive systems and adaptations.

PSHE

Learning about the needs of animals is a valuable life lesson. Children are able to experience the well-being benefits of being with animals.

Meet Your Workshop Facilitator: Dr Caroline

Caroline has worked as a doctor for over 30 years and whilst no longer seeing patients, she works with medical students from the University of Plymouth as a Small Group Facilitator and Academic Tutor.

Passionate about enabling children to learn outside the classroom as well as in it, Caroline developed programmes to link academic learning to real-life situations. She has completed CEVAS (Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme) which is part of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) Education.

Caroline is supported at Allerton Alpacas by her husband, David.  As medical professionals, they greatly understand and value well-being, and have seen first-hand the calming and positive impact their alpacas have on everyone who spends time with them.

Booking a Mobile Visit: What You Need to Know

We bring the joy of outdoor learning directly to your school gates, partnering with schools, academies, and educational groups across Somerset.

To make the magic happen, all we require is access to an outdoor area, whether that is a concrete playground or a school field, where our gentle alpacas can be safely set up in their pen to greet your pupils.

We understand that in addition to the learning opportunity for your children, school safety and compliance are your highest priorities. For your complete peace of mind, our mobile workshops are fully licensed, insured, and closely aligned with respected CEVAS and LEAF educational standards.

Caroline will also work closely with your teaching staff to tailor the workshop content specifically to your pupils' current learning goals, whether you are looking for an impactful, one-off experiential afternoon or a structured series of visits across the term. Caroline will help guide you in this process but if you have specific requirements in mind for your group, please share these when planning your mobile visit with us so we can make it rewarding for all.

To check our alpaca workshop availability or request pricing information, simply email Caroline directly.

Bad Weather and Rearrangements

As our learning workshops take place outdoors and the wellbeing of both your students and our alpacas is important to us, workshop visits may need to be rearranged in poor weather conditions. If this happens, we’ll contact you with plenty of notice and organise an alternative date.
