SCENIC SURROUNDINGS, MINDFUL CONNECTIONS

Immersive Alpaca Walking & Restorative Experiences in Somerset

Discover the magic of Alpacas

Mother alpaca tenderly nudges her new baby - alpaca wellness sessions

Set within our paddocks and orchard in the quiet village of Stone Allerton, our alpaca experiences offer something truly unique. Whether you want to handle and walk alongside our gentle herd, learn about these fascinating creatures, enjoy a memorable family activity, or simply take time out from your busy routine to slow down and reconnect with nature - we invite you to "discover the magic of Allerton Alpacas".

With a maximum of just four guests per walk, every experience feels relaxed, welcoming, and unhurried - giving you time to properly connect with the alpacas and enjoy the surroundings at their pace.

Choose Your Alpaca Walking or Wellbeing Experience

If you have never been around an alpaca before, you are in wonderful company. The vast majority of our guests arrive with absolutely no previous experience handling these gentle animals. Under the patient, engaging guidance of Caroline, you will quickly feel at ease, learning how to confidently interact with the herd at a comfortable pace.

Alpacas offer a completely unique connection. Even for those deeply familiar with horses, dogs, cows, or sheep, there is nothing quite like the magic of an alpaca interaction. Sitting quietly in the field as a curious alpaca gently checks you out, the sniff on your face from their muzzle, or the enthusiastic nibble on your palm as they eat their favourite dried peas snack from your hand, is something truly remarkable.

Our alpacas are cared for across two separate fields, each offering a slightly different experience. The girls and any young cria (babies) live together in the paddock close to the barn, while the boys and our rare-breed sheep share the field adjacent to the orchard. The two fields are approximately a five-minute walk apart, allowing each group space to relax in their own environment.

Whether you want a fun family activity or a creative afternoon in the barn, our four Alpaca Experiences are designed to let you experience that magic firsthand.

Alpaca 'Mums and Cria' Meet & Greet Experience

Meet, feed and learn about our female alpacas and their cria in their home paddocks.

Our alpaca meet and greet paddock sessions allow you to spend quality time with our herd - sitting with, feeding and learning about our alpaca mums and babies. Our cria are typically born during the summer months, so if you visit then, they will be tiny and bouncy.  As the Crias grow and wean from mum, they become enjoyably inquisitive and independent, and if you sit patiently, they will come and investigate you, sending in the bravest first, before scuttling away.

It’s a wonderfully gentle and surprisingly therapeutic experience for animal lovers of all ages with gentle interaction and beautiful photo opportunities. You will get up close with the herd, learn fascinating facts about their unique personalities, and enjoy the magic of hand-feeding them.

Includes:

Paddock entry, educational talk, and feeding experience.

Alpaca and Rare-breed Sheep Meet & Greet Experience

Meet, feed and learn about our male alpacas and rare-breed sheep. The 'boys' are kept separately from the female alpacas and their field is a short 5 min walk from the Allerton Alpaca home field.

Similar to our home paddock meet and greet, these field sessions offer a relaxed, free-roaming experience where you can wander among our lively boy alpacas and unique rare-breed sheep. You will get to know them up close in their pens first, hand-feeding them before we allow the Alpacas 'free range' into the field, where you can enjoy plenty of time for photos in a beautiful, natural setting.

During the session, we will share fascinating facts about both the alpacas and the sheep. You’ll learn all about why we chose these specific rare-breed sheep, how the boys and sheep happily live alongside each other, and the incredible way alpacas act as natural protectors for the flock.

It is a wonderful, insightful experience that is perfect for animal lovers looking for a deeper connection with a unique farm family.

Alpaca Walking & Care Experience

Take the meet and greet further with an Alpaca Walking & Care Experience!

Designed for groups of two to four guests, this experience begins with a meet and greet with our male Alpacas in their field just a short stroll from the Allerton Alpaca home paddock.

You'll have time to meet them up close in their pens, learning about their personalities, and hand-feeding them before being shown how to safely approach and handle them. Once everyone is comfortable, we'll pair you with your own alpaca companion* and set off on a gentle guided walk through the field's adjoining orchard.

Unlike rugged alpaca trekking experiences found on open moorlands or hiking routes, our sessions are intentionally slower paced and more personal. Every experience feels relaxed, welcoming, and completely unhurried, giving you the time to properly connect with the alpacas and enjoy the surroundings at their natural pace. It also provides plenty of opportunities for unique photographs, questions, and simply soaking in the calming nature of these characterful animals.

After the walk, you'll have the opportunity to hand-feed our resident sheep, adding another memorable countryside moment to your visit.

Genuinely magical

I did a meet and greet with the Alpacas. I've been around horses and dogs all my life, but never met an Alpaca. Caroline told me how to approach - or rather be approached by - the alpacas. Sitting there, having my face gently inspected by a muzzle and then feeding them was something genuinely unique. A connection quite unlike anything you'll have experienced before.
